Custom Cutouts and Shapes for LED Light Panels

At Nu World, we specialize in manufacturing ultra-thin LED light panels that can be built to precise dimensions — including custom shapes, cutouts, and voids. Whether you’re backlighting a kitchen island with a sink, a vanity with faucet holes, or a uniquely curved bar top, our panels can be tailored to fit your exact needs.

But when it comes to cutouts and voids, there are some important best practices to keep in mind to ensure the best results on-site.

We Can Manufacture to Any Shape or Size

Our LED panels can be built in virtually any shape or configuration within a standard size range of 3” × 3” up to 48” × 96”.

We frequently manufacture:

  • Rounded or curved shapes
  • Angled or trapezoidal panels
  • Panels with notches, voids, or complex cutouts
  • L-shapes, U-shapes, and irregular forms

These panels can be precisely designed to match your countertop or stone layout — as long as we receive the correct digital file.

CAD File Required — No Sketches, No PDFs

To manufacture panels with cutouts or complex shapes, we require a CAD file in .DWG format showing:

  • The outer dimensions of the panel
  • The exact size and placement of all voids or holes

This file is typically supplied by your stone fabricator.

If you don’t have a CAD file, you can send us a full-scale paper template. We’ll convert it into a proper .DWG CAD file on your behalf.

Note: CAD conversion starts at $200 USD for a basic shape and increases based on complexity.

Why We Recommend Cutting Voids On-Site

While we can machine voids into the LED panels during production, we strongly recommend that sink, faucet, or plumbing cutouts be made on-site by the installer. Here’s why:

  • Provides flexibility for last-minute layout adjustments
  • Ensures perfect alignment with the stone or surface
  • Reduces the chance of errors caused by shifting dimensions

Void cuts can be easily made using a handheld router that’s suitable for acrylic. Since our panels are edge-lit, there are no electrical components in the center. As long as the installer stays at least ½” away from the edges, cutouts can be safely made anywhere on the surface.

Clean, Consistent Lighting — Even Around Cutouts

All of our panels are CNC-machined with precision, and the light diffusion remains uniform — even around complex shapes. The internal light engine uses an edge-lit acrylic core that evenly disperses light, so cutouts or notches won’t cause dark spots or hotspots.

If you’re using a highly crystalline or transparent material like Cristallo Quartzite, we may suggest adding a diffusion layer such as 7328 white Plexiglass between the LED panel and the stone to achieve a perfect blend.

Important Disclaimers

The above methods are based on years of experience and common industry practices, but each project is unique. Always consult with your stone fabricator and installer to determine the most appropriate method for your job site. All electrical connections must be made by a licensed electrician.
